Setting up rules for the affiliate system

Create integrations for the Plug&Pay affiliate system

Written by Joris Witkamp

In this article, you'll read how to connect the affiliate system to external software so new affiliates are automatically included in your onboarding. Think of a welcome email through ActiveCampaign, or an affiliate being added to a Discord group automatically via Zapier.

There are two ways to connect: through a direct integration in Plug&Pay, or indirectly via Zapier.

ℹ️ The affiliate system is part of Plug&Pay Ultimate.

Are you on Plug&Pay Lite or Premium? Upgrade to Ultimate to use this feature.

Setting up a direct integration

Navigate to Settings > Rules and add a new rule.

Give the rule a name so you can easily recognise it later, and then choose the trigger. A trigger is the event that fires the rule.

Choose one of these three triggers:

  • Affiliate accepted: the affiliate has been accepted, either automatically or manually.

  • Affiliate denied: you've rejected the affiliate manually.

  • Affiliate quit: the affiliate has removed themselves from your programme via their own dashboard.

Then use the first dropdown to choose the software where the action should happen, and the second dropdown to pick the action itself. The available actions are:

In the example below, once accepted, the affiliate receives a tag in ActiveCampaign using the Add tag action. Based on this tag, you can start an automation.

Click Create rule to save your new integration.

Indirect integration via Zapier

Zapier lets you connect Plug&Pay to software that doesn't have a direct integration yet. That way, you can automatically add an approved affiliate to a Discord group, or connect to another email marketing tool such as Mailchimp.

When setting up a zap, choose the Affiliate Accepted trigger. Then pick the app where the action should happen and configure the action itself.

💡 Tip: always test your zap before setting it live.
