Setting up the affiliate system

Get your Plug&Pay affiliate system configured and ready to go

Written by Joris Witkamp

In this article, you'll read how to set up the affiliate system so affiliates can start selling your products. You'll run through your business details, your payment provider and the system settings, and then open up registrations.

ℹ️ The affiliate system is part of Plug&Pay Ultimate. Are you on Plug&Pay Lite or Premium? Upgrade to Ultimate to use this feature.

Checking your business details

Before you can activate the affiliate system, your business details need to be complete and correct. Check them under Settings > Details. If any fields are missing or incorrect, we can't approve your shop for the affiliate system.

Connecting a payment provider

Without a payment provider, no transactions can take place. Make sure your shop is connected to a payment provider (Mollie, Stripe or Whop) and that test mode is switched off. You can check this under Settings > Payment provider.

Configuring the affiliate system

You configure the affiliate system exactly how you want it under Affiliates > Settings. The settings are split across four tabs.

General

Here you fill in your general business details, such as your logo and description. This is also where you set whether affiliates are allowed to register for your business. That option only becomes available once you've filled in a few specific sections, which we'll cover further down.

Preferences

On this tab, you decide how your affiliate system behaves.

Sellers

  • Choose whether affiliates are approved automatically or manually.

  • Decide whether the last or the first affiliate receives the commission.

  • Set a payment threshold: the minimum outstanding amount before an affiliate can be paid out.

  • Decide how many days it takes before a commission is released for payout.

  • Choose whether affiliates should receive a notification after each payout.

House rules

Set the house rules that affiliates need to stick to. A new affiliate has to agree to these house rules before an account can be created.

Redirect whitelist

The redirect whitelist contains all the domain names on which commission can be earned. When you create a promotion link, the domain is automatically added to this list.

Please note: an affiliate cookie can't be placed on a domain that isn't in the redirect whitelist.

Payout methods

By default, SEPA is the payout method. You can also pay affiliates using PayPal. This requires a business PayPal account, and your affiliate needs to select PayPal as the payout method in their affiliate dashboard.

Form settings

Finally, you can allow commission on duplicate form submissions. With this switched on, affiliates earn commission on every submission, regardless of whether the email address has been used for the same form before.

Profiles

On this tab, you create profiles that you assign to affiliates. Per profile, you decide which products an affiliate is allowed to sell and what commission goes with each, forms included. You also set the cookie lifespan per profile, and whether the commission is one-off or recurring (for subscriptions). Within a profile, you can override the settings per product, giving you full flexibility with your commissions.

Promotion links

This is where you add all the links your affiliates are allowed to promote. They appear in each affiliate's own account, where a unique code is generated for the link. That unique link is what stores the affiliate cookie.

Opening up registrations

The final step is to switch on the Allow registrations toggle so affiliates can sign up. You'll find this under Affiliates > Settings > General. Don't forget to save.

Have you worked through all the sections above? Then you're ready to welcome your first affiliates.
