In collaboration with Mollie, Plug&Pay offers you the possibility to use different payment options. In this article, you will read which payment methods you can use within Plug&Pay π°
β
These are not all the payment methods you can use. Would you like to add other payment methods than those listed below? You can activate them in your Mollie account and they will be automatically added to your Plug&Pay account.
Which payment methods can I use to sell subscriptions and upsells?
You can only use a number of payment methods that allow customers to pay for recurring payments such as subscriptions, instalments and one-click upsells. For certain payment methods, you must also activate SEPA Direct Debit in order to use them.
β
These are the options available when you want to start offering subscriptions:
β
Credit Card
With a credit card payment method, you can offer subscriptions to your customers worldwide. Mollie supports Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
PayPal
PayPal only works for subscriptions if you have activated PayPal Reference Transactions on your account. If this is not the case, it is not possible to debit subscriptions with PayPal and PayPal will not be displayed on the checkout page for a subscription or instalment payment. You can find more information about this in Mollie's article about offering subscriptions with PayPal.
iDEAL
The iDEAL payment method is very popular among online shoppers in the Netherlands. To use iDEAL, you need to request SEPA Direct Debit from Mollie.
β
Bancontact
To offer subscriptions to Belgian customers, you need Bancontact! This is a Belgian payment scheme that is widely used in Belgium to carry out online transactions and is comparable to iDEAL. For Bancontact, you also need SEPA Direct Debit approval from Mollie.

Pay by invoice or direct debit
With Plug&Pay, you can also pay by invoice or direct debit. This can be very useful if your customers are not the ones paying for the subscription and need to use a different account. You might also want to create a customised invoice for your customers.
When you create an order or subscription in your Plug&Pay dashboard, you always have the option to pay by direct debit or invoice. For direct debit, you must already have your customer's name and IBAN. For bank transfers, an email with the invoice will be sent to the customer. The customer will find a payment link in this email and can transfer the amount to you that way.
Pay later with Klarna and In3
With Klarna, you can also offer your customers the option to pay for their purchases later. As the seller, you will receive the amount directly from Klarna or In3, who will then collect it from the customer.
βοΈKlarna and In3 are only displayed for physical products. If you offer digital products, this payment option will not be available.
Payment limits
Because payments by credit card or SEPA involve risks, banks have set a minimum and maximum amount for transactions.
You can read more about the maximum and minimum amounts in this Mollie article.
The standard maximum transaction amount for your Plug&Pay subscriptions is Β£1,000 including VAT. You can increase this amount through Mollie by submitting a request to Mollie support. Furthermore, different payment methods have different processing times.
For example, iDEAL payments can be credited to your account the next day. Direct debit payments can take up to 5 business days. This can sometimes cause confusion!
