To process and receive payments, you need a payment provider. Plug&Pay integrates with two payment providers: Mollie and Stripe.
What are the differences, and which one should you choose?
Mollie
Mollie is the most popular payment provider among Plug&Pay users. It's a Dutch company and a trusted name in the Dutch, Belgian and UK markets.
Mollie has expanded to the United Kingdom, making it the top choice for UK entrepreneurs.
Mollie transaction fees
Mollie uses a pay-per-transaction model with no fixed (hidden) fees.
Rates vary per payment method.
Three of the most common payment methods:
Credit card = 1.80% + £0.20 / transaction
PayPal = PayPal fees + £0.10
Bacs Direct Debit = 0.90% + £0.20
Advantages of Mollie
More payment methods
Via the Mollie integration, you can accept: credit card, PayPal, Bacs Direct Debit, Apple Pay, Klarna and many more.Direct white-label integration
You don't need to create a separate account with Mollie. Don't have a payment provider yet? You can get started with a Mollie account directly through Plug&Pay.
Stripe
Stripe is an American company with a strong focus on the international market. It's popular with businesses that operate globally. Stripe is also the better choice if you sell products or services in categories that are more difficult to manage with Mollie.
Stripe transaction fees
Stripe also uses a pay-per-transaction model with no fixed or hidden costs.
Rates vary per payment method.
Two of the most common payment methods:
Credit card = 1.50% + 20p
SEPA Direct Debit = 1% + minimum fee 20p
Advantages of Stripe
Less hassle with high-risk products
It's considerably easier to create a Stripe account and sell products that are quickly flagged as high-risk - think alcohol, adult content, crypto, and/or gambling.International focus
Is your business based outside the EU? Then Stripe is the better option. Stripe is also particularly strong for credit card payments worldwide, ideal if you serve customers outside Europe.

Switching payment provider?
Switching payment providers is a significant undertaking. The reason is that all mandates for automatic payments will be cancelled.
For direct debits via IBAN, account numbers will need to be reprocessed manually and a new mandate will be created.
For credit card direct debits, this is unfortunately not possible. Customers will need to complete a new payment themselves to create a new mandate.
Bear this in mind if you have active direct debits: all subsequent orders will not be collected until new mandates are in place.
