Applying a discount code to subscriptions/instalments

Using a discount code for subscriptions/instalments

Written by Frederieke Slinger

In this article, you'll learn how to apply a discount code to (ongoing) subscriptions and instalment payments. The discount code can be filled in by the customer on the checkout, or the discount can be applied afterwards to an active subscription or instalment payment.

Haven't created a discount code yet? Read the article Creating and setting a discount code.

Setting up a discount code for subscriptions/instalments

When creating a discount code, under Options you have the option to make a discount code recurring.

Select the option 'Yes'. The discount will be applied to every order within the subscription or instalment payment.

You can read how to allow a discount code on your checkout in this article.

Applying a discount afterwards to a subscription/instalment

A discount code itself can't be added afterwards to an ongoing subscription or instalment payment. To still give a discount, you can manually set up a promo (for subscriptions) or change the price (for instalment payments).

Open the subscription via Sales > Subscriptions, or the instalment payment via Sales > Instalments.

Subscriptions

Click the ✏️ icon to edit the price.

Under Discount you can fill in a Promo. Enter the discount amount that should apply to this subscription from now on and click Save. This discount is applied for as long as the subscription is active.

Instalment payments

Click Price to edit the price.

Change the amount that will be used for new instalment payments from now on and click Save. The 'discount' won't be explicitly stated on the invoice.
