If you sell a digital product, such as an e-book or spreadsheet, you want to provide this product automatically after an order is placed.
In this article you find the five different ways in which you can share a digital file with your customers.
❗Downloading a file directly within Plug&Pay is only possible with .pdf, .docx, .pptx, .xlsx files. All other types of files must be downloaded via an external host (such as Google Drive or OneDrive) or sent via email.
Upload a file to the Media Library
For the first three options available, you must upload the relevant file to your Media Library. You do this by navigating to Media > File+:
Once a file is added, you find the specific download link by clicking on the file:
1. (Default) Confirmation page
When creating your product you can navigate to Media > Downloads and add a download:
This file is immediately available for download for your customers on the confirmation page:
Default confirmation page:
2. Download button on custom confirmation page
When creating a custom confirmation page you can add a button where you add your specific download link:
ℹ️ You can also use this to add a YouTube or Vimeo URL that customers can only see after they placed an order.
3. Download button on landing page
First create a landing page. Add a content block with a button:
Click the button to edit it. Make sure to select Link and enter your specific download link.
I recommend turning on both Open in new tab and No follow. This ensures that the customer does not leave your website and that there is no SEO value added to the destination page.
Using a .docx, .pptx or .xlsx file? It is downloaded immediately.
Using a .pdf file? It is opened in a (new) tab where it can be downloaded.
4. Share file via email
Plug&Pay can be linked to your email software. We offer a direct integration with ActiveCampaign / MailBlue. Other email software must be integrated via Zapier.
After placing an order, all relevant integrations are activated and sent to your email software. Via ActiveCampaign, MailBlue or Zapier you create the necessary automation to share the file with your customer.
5. Share file via external host
First, upload the file to your external host. Next, navigate to the specific file and copy the URL of the file.
You can add the URL of the file either as:
Add is as Own URL for a checkout:
ℹ️ Everything can be shared via the internet. Technically, customers can share these links (Media Library or external host) or forward your mail with other people, thus distributing your product without paying for it.
