After installing the Meta Pixel on your Plug&Pay site, you can measure various events, such as the number of page views or the number of sales from a specific ad campaign.
In this article we explain which events are measured, what you can do with them, and how to use this data to optimise your marketing strategies.
Overview of Events
You can view conversions and events in Meta for Business under Event Manager.
In this overview you will find all pixels and the activity of each pixel.
Which events are tracked and measured depends on what you use the Pixel for. Different events are measured on landing pages than on payment pages, upsell pages, and thank-you pages.
The Different Events
When different actions take place on your pages, an event is sent to Meta. The following three events are automatically sent from Plug&Pay for your payment pages and thank-you pages. You do not need to configure anything for these:
Add To Cart: This is a page view on your payment page. When someone views your payment page, this is counted as an add to cart.
Initiate Checkout: The customer starts the payment process by clicking Checkout.
Purchase: The customer reaches the thank-you page. This means the customer has completed the payment process.
ℹ️ The purchase event is only measured by Plug&Pay if you use a Plug&Pay thank-you page. If you use your own thank-you page on another website, you will need to add the Meta Pixel code there yourself.
For your landing pages you can configure and send the following events to Meta:
Page View: A page view on your landing page.
Lead: A 'lead' event measures when your visitor shows interest in your offer and contacts you about it. For example, when customers sign up for a one-on-one call with you, this visitor has not yet purchased anything from you.
Complete registration: A 'complete registration' event measures when your visitor has signed up for an event or a campaign you are running. Think of a registration for a webinar.
View content: A 'view content' event tracks which visitors see the offer you have made. This does not necessarily mean that they have purchased the offer.
Submit application: A 'submit application' event is intended to track incoming applications. You could use this on a contact page, after customers have submitted an application.
Start trial: The 'start trial' event is configured when you offer a trial period to your leads. This gives you a clear picture of how many trials your visitors take up. You can configure it on a thank-you page of your trial page.
Purchase: Use the 'purchase' event for pages where you want to measure purchases. For example, when you set a landing page as a thank-you page.
You configure these events on your landing page by editing the page and clicking Settings at the top. Under Tracking you can set a tracking event.
Setting Up the Pixel on Landing Pages
When you have connected the Meta Pixel to Plug&Pay, it is automatically added to all payment pages, upsell pages, and thank-you pages.
If you also want data to be measured on your landing pages, for example because you are running an ad campaign for a webinar registration, make sure the tracking toggle is activated on your landing page.
When editing your landing page, click the gear icon at the top. Under Tracking you will find this toggle.
The Meta Pixel will only be measured when a user accepts all cookies on your landing page. User consent is required to track data.
To measure as much data as possible and track your conversions as accurately as possible, it is recommended to set up the Conversions API.
Which events are measured on the landing page?
By default, the Page View event is measured. This is a page view on the relevant page. In addition to the Page View, you can measure one other event.
Under Tracking you can configure a Meta conversion tracking event.
ℹ️ The additional fields, such as value, currency, and content name, are optional fields.
💡 Tip: Test the different events.
In Meta you can go to Test Events. Copy the test code and enter it in the Meta Pixel integration in Plug&Pay.
You can then place a test order in your Plug&Pay. After placing the test order, you can see exactly which events have been fired.
After clicking on an event, you can see via which page the event was fired.
❗️ Please note: remove the test code from the Meta Pixel integration in Plug&Pay after testing. If you leave it in, all events will be measured as test events.
Creating Custom Conversions
Within Meta you can create custom conversions to measure specific pages in Plug&Pay for visits and purchases. For example, you can measure a specific payment page on which you are running ads.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
My Meta Pixel is not measuring conversions, what could be the cause?
My Meta Pixel is not measuring conversions, what could be the cause?
Data from the Pixel is not measured in real time. There is a delay in displaying the data in Business Manager. If you still have not received any data after 30 minutes, check using the Meta Pixel Helper on your pages whether the Pixel is detected and whether at least one event is being measured. Finally, check whether the test code has been removed from the plugin settings in Plug&Pay.
Can I measure Page Views with the Meta Pixel in Plug&Pay?
Can I measure Page Views with the Meta Pixel in Plug&Pay?
If you have entered only the Pixel ID in Plug&Pay via Settings > Plugins, no Page Views are measured, only events. If you also want to measure Page Views, you can clear the Pixel ID and instead paste the Facebook Pixel script including the page view code under Settings > Widgets. The code entered here is loaded on every payment page.
Can I measure multiple events on a landing page?
Can I measure multiple events on a landing page?
Yes, you can measure a maximum of 2 events on a landing page. In addition to the event you choose under Tracking, you can also measure the Page View event. To do this, you need to add the base code of your Pixel as a script to the landing page. Paste the base code in the field at the bottom, give the script a name, and choose Statistical or Marketing under Type. The location of the script must be in the head tag of your website.
