Managing SEO settings

Configure the SEO settings of your landing pages

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. SEO covers all activities carried out to improve a website's visibility in a search engine.

The aim of SEO is to attract more visitors through the organic part of search engines (such as Google and Bing). By appearing at the top of search results, you bring relevant visitors to your website who are specifically interested in your industry.

Managing the SEO settings

Every Plug&Pay landing page contains a number of fields and options to give your page the basic SEO settings it needs.

Open your landing page to edit it and click Settings at the top. In the menu on the left, expand the SEO tab.

Meta data

Meta data consists of a meta title and meta description. Meta data is shown on the search results page. The meta title is also used as the title of the browser tab for your page. You can easily generate meta data with our AI. Based on the page content, a fitting title and description are generated.

ℹ️ Meta data can ultimately be adjusted by Google itself, so it doesn't always match what you've entered here.

Canonical URL

The canonical URL is the 'actual' page that should be shown in the search results. If a website has multiple pages within a category, for example, it makes sense to have only the first page indexed.

  • Correct page: testshop.com/offers

  • Incorrect page: testshop.com/offers-promo-discount

If you don't do this, you'll be competing with yourself. If you don't have any duplicate pages, leave this field blank.

Indexing and following

Indexing means including the page in the search results. This tells search engines such as Google whether this page is allowed to be found.

Link following tells search engines whether links on the page may be followed. If you don't allow this, no value is passed to hyperlinks on your page.

Use this when you don't want set links to be shown in Google, or when the destination pages don't have much value (such as an About us page).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

My page can't be found in Google, why is that?

Your pages aren't indexed straight away. This can take days or weeks. You can speed up the process by uploading your sitemap to Google Search Console.

Where can I find my sitemap?

You can retrieve your sitemap by adding /pages_sitemap.xml after your Plug&Pay domain.

For example: https://yourwebsite.com/pages_sitemap.xml.

Will these settings ensure I rank highly in Google?

SEO isn't as simple as flipping a few switches. There's a lot more to it, from keywords to rich content.

The settings mentioned in this article don't immediately make you rank high in Google. They serve as a foundation so that your page can be found in Google. How high you rank depends on how the page is structured and written.
