What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. SEO encompasses all activities carried out to improve the visibility of a website in a search engine.

The goal of SEO is to attract more visitors through the organic part of search engines (such as Google & Bing). By appearing at the top of search results, you attract relevant visitors to your website who have a specific interest in your industry.

Managing the SEO Settings

Every Plug&Pay landing page contains a number of fields and options to provide your page with the basic SEO settings.

Open your landing page to edit it and click Settings at the top. In the left-hand menu, expand the SEO tab.

Meta data

Meta data consists of a meta title and meta description. Meta data is shown on the search results page. The meta title is also used as the tab title for your page.

Generate meta data effortlessly using our AI. Based on the page content, a suitable title and description will be generated.

โ„น๏ธ The meta data may ultimately be adjusted by Google itself and may therefore not always match what you enter here.

Canonical URL

The canonical URL is the 'actual' page that should be shown in the search results. If a website has multiple pages within a category, for example, it is preferable to only have the first page indexed.

  • Correct page: testwinkel.nl/aanbod

  • Incorrect page: testwinkel.nl/aanbod-actiekorting

If you don't do this, you are competing with yourself. If you don't have duplicate pages, leave this field empty.

Indexing and following

Indexing means including the page in search results. This tells search engines such as Google whether this page may be found.

Link following tells search engines whether links on the page may be followed. If you don't allow this, no value will be assigned to hyperlinks on your page. Use this when you don't want configured links to appear in Google, or when the destination pages have little value (such as an About us page).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

My page is not being found in Google, why is that?

Indexing your pages does not happen immediately. This can take days to weeks. You can speed up this process by uploading your sitemap to Google Search Console.

Where can I find my sitemap?

You can retrieve your sitemap by adding /pages_sitemap.xml after your Plug&Pay domain. For example: https://yourwebsite.com/pages_sitemap.xml.

Do these settings ensure I rank highly in Google?

SEO is not as simple as enabling a few settings. It involves much more than that, from keywords to rich content.

The settings mentioned in this guide do not immediately ensure you rank highly in Google. These settings serve as a foundation so that your page can be found in Google. How highly you rank depends on how the page is built and written.
