Use a Payment Service Provider
In order to use Plug&Pay, you have to connect a Payment Service Provider (PSP) to your Plug&Pay account. The PSP is responsible for the payments made in your checkouts. You can choose between Mollie and Stripe. This article describes how to connect Plug&Pay to Stripe!
Why Stripe?
It does not matter if you use Mollie or Stripe as your PSP; it is entirely up to you. If you already have a Stripe-account or do not know how to connect Mollie, Stripe is the best option.
Create an account in Stripe
The most important thing is that you have an account in Stripe. Don't have an account yet? You can create one via this page.
Connect Stripe to your Plug&Pay account
In your Plug&Pay environment, go to Settings > Payment provider. Here, select Stripe. Click on the “connect” button:
Once you are logged in, you will see the screen below. You can choose one of the accounts within your Stripe to link to Plug&Pay.
It is important that you create both the test integration and the live integration. Once you have created the test integration, click on the “connect” button again for the live integration to create the live integration as well.
Ultimately, both the live integration and the test integration must display the text “Connected” in green in order to use Plug&Pay in combination with Stripe.
Payment methods
In Plug&Pay, on the Payment Provider page, you will see which payment methods are available for your shop after you have made the connection:
The following payment methods are currently available for Plug&Pay:
Credit card
iDEAL
SEPA direct debit
Bancontact
We are planning to add more payment methods in the future.
Deactivating payment methods
Would you like to deactivate a payment method? You can do this in Stripe. To find these settings quickly, you can search for payment methods using the search bar on your screen.
You will then need to go to Settings > Payments > Payment methods:
On this page, you will need to select the Plug&Pay configuration. You can do this by clicking on “default”. You will see Plug&Pay configurations listed here, and you can select default:
On this page, you can see all payment methods that have been set up for Plug&Pay.
If you do not want to use a payment method, you can click on that payment method. Once you have clicked on it, more information about the payment method will appear. Here, you can click on the 'Turn off' button:
Can I receive payments?
If Stripe is linked correctly, you can receive payments. Not sure if it's linked correctly? Check these points:
1. Both your live and test links have been created
On the Settings > Payment provider page, you will see both the Live link and the Test link marked as Linked in green:
2. You have activated payment methods
Under Settings > Payment provider, you will see your preferred payment methods listed.
3. Payment methods on the payment page
When you open your payment page, you will see at least one payment method listed on the page:
FAQ / Frequently asked questions
Can I switch between Stripe and Mollie?
Can I switch between Stripe and Mollie?
It is not recommended to switch between Mollie and Stripe. If you have an existing account and work with Mollie and remove this link, we will no longer be able to adjust/update the status of invoices when a payment is received in Mollie.
It also causes problems with direct debits if you work with subscriptions or instalment payments. For example, the mandate (the authorisation to debit) is stored with Mollie. If you then switch your Plug&Pay to Stripe, there will no longer be a mandate.
This would mean that all subscriptions and instalment payments could no longer be debited automatically, and a new payment from your customer would be required.
Are you sure you want to change your payment provider? If so, please contact support first (via the chat in your management environment) so that we can look into it with you and discuss all possible objections in advance.
