Selling subscriptions with Plug&Pay
With Plug&Pay, people can purchase a subscription at the checkout. Take a look at our own checkout, for example:
People can choose here between a monthly and an annual subscription. Customers complete the first payment at the checkout. After a month (or after a year for an annual subscription), the subscription is renewed from Plug&Pay and the amount is automatically collected again.
We ourselves only use the monthly and annual options, but within Plug&Pay you have the option to offer a monthly, quarterly and annual subscription.
Which payment methods can people use to pay?
The payment methods that allow automatic direct debit are the payment methods that can be used at a checkout for a subscription. An example is credit card.
If you activate SEPA direct debit within Mollie, people can also pay with iDEAL and Bancontact at the checkout. The account number (IBAN) that people use to pay via iDEAL or Bancontact is saved with the subscription. When the subscription renews, the amount is debited from this account by means of SEPA direct debit.
Without activating SEPA direct debit, people cannot pay with iDEAL or Bancontact in a checkout with a subscription.
Creating a product for the subscription
If you have one of the above payment methods active, you can create a product for your subscription. You can create a new product in Plug&Pay via Products in the menu. Click here if you need help creating a product.
When you create a new product, you can immediately choose Subscription in the Price screen and enter a price per month and/or per year.
After your product has been created, you can always adjust the prices and add a quarterly option via the Prices tab. In the screenshot below, the monthly amount is β¬49, the quarterly amount is β¬137 and the annual amount is β¬497.
Only the options where you fill something in are shown on the checkout. So if you don't want to offer a quarterly subscription, you can leave that field empty.
You can also tick which option is Featured. In the screenshot below that is the annual option. This is ticked by default on the checkout when someone arrives at the checkout.
Is your annual or quarterly subscription cheaper than a monthly subscription? Via the Price triggers option at the checkout of your subscription you can choose to show this benefit. The monthly amount is then shown at your annual or quarterly option, as well as the discount you receive.
In the same screen you can show the monthly amounts for the quarterly and annual subscriptions, and enable a banner to encourage choosing a payment option.
All the above settings are then displayed like this on your checkout π
Customers can therefore choose whether they want to pay monthly, quarterly or annually, but are also nudged towards the annual subscription.
Viewing purchased subscriptions via the admin environment
In the admin environment you can go to Sales > Subscriptions to view all subscriptions. As soon as someone completes a subscription via your checkout, this subscription will appear here.
On the right you will see a filter, where you could for example filter on only the active subscriptions to see exactly who currently has an active subscription with you.
You also have an export button. You can therefore export all your subscriptions to a .csv or .xlsx file.
When you click on a subscription, you will see all the information about the subscription. This shows you which customer details are known. If necessary, you can also adjust the customer details here. In addition, you also have the option to stop a subscription by setting it to Cancelled.
At status (Active) you can see what the next direct debit date is. On that day the next instalment of this customer will be collected! The collection of the next instalment is fully automatic and you don't need to do anything!
