Use a Payment Service Provider
In order to use Plug&Pay, you have to connect with a Payment Service Provider (PSP). The PSP processes the actual payments made in your checkouts. You can use Mollie or Stripe as your PSP. This article describes how to use Mollie!
Why use Mollie?
It does not matter whether you use Mollie or Stripe; it is entirely up to you. Do you already have a Mollie account or are you unable to set up a Stripe account for any reason? In that case is Mollie your best choice.
Create an account with Mollie
First, it is important that you have an account with Mollie. Don't have an account yet? You can create one here.
Connect Mollie to Plug&Pay
In your Plug&Pay admin, go to Settings > Payment provider. Select Mollie. Click on the “Connect” button:
You will then be redirected to a page in Mollie. Click on the blue “Connect” button.
Now that you have clicked on “Add Mollie”, your Mollie is linked to Plug&Pay! 🎉
Select your website profile
If you use Mollie for multiple systems, you probably also have multiple website profiles in Mollie. Make sure you use the correct website profile for Plug&Pay!
In Plug&Pay, you can select which website profile you want to use:
Payment methods
Have you linked Mollie and selected the correct website profile? Under Settings > Payment provider, you can now see which payment methods are active for this profile.
Add or deactivate payment methods
The payment methods you use on your Plug&Pay checkouts are determined in your Mollie profile. Here you can activate the payment methods you want to offer.
Log in to your Mollie account and navigate to the website profile you use for Plug&Pay. Under Online payment methods, you can add or deactivate a payment method.
SEPA Direct Debit
If you offer subscriptions or instalment payments, or want to use one-click upsells, it is important that you enable SEPA Direct Debit in Mollie.
You will not be able to activate and use SEPA Direct Debit immediately. Mollie must first check and approve your request. This usually takes 2 to 4 days.
Can I receive payments?
Once Mollie is correctly connected, you can receive payments. Not sure if it's connected correctly? Check the following points:
1. Your test mode is disabled
On the page Settings > Payment provider, this slider must be turned off:
2. You have activated payment methods
Under Settings > Payment provider, you will see your selected payment methods.
3. Payment methods on the checkout page
When you open your checkout page, you will see at least one payment method listed on the page:
FAQ / Frequently Asked Questions
Can I switch between Mollie and Stripe?
Can I switch between Mollie and Stripe?
You cannot easily switch between Mollie and Stripe. If you have an existing account and work with Mollie and remove this integration, we will no longer be able to adjust/update the status of invoices when a payment is received in Mollie. It also causes problems with direct debits if you work with subscriptions or instalment payments. For example, the mandate (the authorisation to debit) is stored with Mollie. If you then switch your Plug&Pay to Stripe, there will no longer be a mandate. This would mean that all subscriptions and instalment payments can no longer be debited automatically, and a new payment from your customer would be required.
Are you sure you want to change your payment provider? Please contact support first (via the chat in your admin environment) so that we can look into it with you and discuss any potential issues in advance.
