What is an opt-in?

An opt-in is a form where people fill in their email address to receive an e-book or invitation to a webinar, for example. With an opt-in, you give your visitor something valuable in exchange for their contact details. This is also the first step in building a relationship with potential customers, as you give them permission to approach them further with relevant information and offers.

An opt-in funnel usually consists of:

  • An opt-in page

  • An opt-in form

  • A confirmation page

  • A confirmation email

What are use cases of an opt-in?

The opt-in is often used for free giveaways. After all, offering such a giveaway is the ideal way to expand your mailing list and to introduce people to you, your company and your products/services.

You can also use an opt-in page to register for a webinar or request a quote.

Need some inspiration?

Do you have a giveaway, such as a free e-book?

Add a file to the form which is then automatically sent by email by Plug&Pay. This way, visitors will automatically receive your free e-book.

Do you use an email marketing software, such as ActiveCampaign? Create an integration to collect email addresses from visitors. Warm up your leads with a profitable funnel!

Do you use Huddle?

You can arrange a free trial to your community or e-learning with a free trial period for your subscription. It may just be that the threshold is too high and that you want to make it more accessible. Then you can also create a form as an opt-in, so people only have to leave their name and email.

You can then make an integration with Huddle so that people automatically get an account in Huddle after filling in the form. Work with a temporary access level in Huddle, so that access automatically expires again. Of course, before the access expires, come up with several effective marketing emails to make sure people buy your product :-)

Are you giving a webinar and want to easily collect your registrations?

The default sign-up pages in webinar software are often not set up to maximise conversion. A shame! Of course, you want as many sign-ups as possible. You can use the landing pages within Plug&Pay to create a sign-up page. Then use our Zapier integration to automatically forward the registrations in the form to your webinar software.

With Plug&Pay, you can request the relevant information from your visitors or customers, and you can automatically send a confirmation email with attachments or links.

Create an opt-in page

Navigate to Pages > Landing pages and create a new page. Choose an opt-in or webinar template.

1. Name your page and choose a theme.

2. Giving away a free product, such as an e-book? Upload your PDF file here.

The page content is then written based on this PDF file! If you do not use a PDF file, manually enter what your offer is about.

Choose Skip step if you don't use a giveaway

3. What will be made?

  • Opt-in page

  • Opt-in form

  • Confirmation page after opt-in

If you have added a PDF, a confirmation email will also be sent by default with the PDF attached. Even if you have not added a PDF file, you can enable the confirmation email manually and add links that will appear in the email.

ℹ️ You can customise the content of the confirmation email via

Settings > Email templates

The opt-in page and confirmation page can be found under Landing pages.

The opt-in form can be found under Forms.

Edit form

You can always edit the generated form. Navigate to Tools > Forms and select the form.

If desired, you can change the form name and fields. Read more about forms in the article below πŸ‘‡

Confirmation email

You can adjust the settings of the confirmation email in your form.

To do this, go to your form and click on the Email tab. The files that are attached to the email and the links in the email can be adjusted here.

For each form, you set whether the confirmation email should be sent by Plug&Pay or whether you want to do this yourself via ActiveCampaign, for example.

ℹ️ Want to send the confirmation email yourself? Create an integration with your email marketing software

You can customise the content of the confirmation email via Settings > Email templates. Choose the type you use for your form here: opt-in, contact or webinar.

πŸ’‘ Tips

Offer a paid product after opt-in

Expand your funnel by offering a low-priced product on the confirmation page. Add the checkout to a button. After this payment, you can even add an upsell. This way, you turn a free product into paying customers all of a sudden!

Create a download page

Your e-book or other file can be sent by mail to your visitor. You may prefer to send the visitor to a download page instead, where the file can be downloaded. Use the confirmation page or another page as a download page, where you refer your visitors to after filling in the form.

Test your funnel

Now that your ironclad funnel is ready for the general public, it is always good to go through the funnel yourself. That way you can put the finishing touches to it!
