Creating and managing product groups

Creating, editing and linking product groups to products in Plug&Pay

Written by Rens van Hout

In this guide, you’ll learn how to create and edit product groups and link them to products. Product groups are available from Plug&Pay Premium.

Product groups explained

Product groups let you bundle products that belong together, such as all products of one course or product line. You can then filter on that group in your orders, subscriptions, statistics and affiliates. You can also set up a discount for an entire product group or work with product groups in Zapier.

ℹ️ Only users with the role Owner or Admin can manage product groups. Users with other roles can only view them.

Creating a product group

Go to Products, open the Product groups tab and click Create.

Enter a name for the group, add the products that belong to it and click Create.

The product group overview shows the number of products, the number of orders and the revenue for each group.

Editing or deleting a product group

To edit a product group, select it in the overview. You can then change the name, add products or unlink them. If you rename a group, existing filters and Zapier integrations will keep working. To delete a product group, click the trash icon in the overview.

❗ If you delete a product group, the products themselves remain. They are only unlinked from the group. Discounts linked to the group lose that link.

Setting a product group per product

You can also set the product group from a product. Open the product and select the product group in the dropdown menu, or choose No product group to unlink the product.

ℹ️ You can’t create a new product group from this dropdown menu. Use the Product groups tab instead.

Limitations

There are a few limitations to keep in mind. For example, a product can only belong to one group. In addition, the revenue per product group only includes the products that are currently in it, excluding archived products. If you move a product or delete the entire product group, the previous orders of that product will no longer count towards it.

Frequently asked questions

Can a product belong to two product groups?

No. If you add a product that is already in another group, you’ll see a notification and the product will be removed from its previous group.

Where are my old product groups?

Existing product groups were automatically moved to the new product groups at release.

Why can’t I create a product group?

You can only create product groups with the role Owner or Admin and a Premium or Ultimate subscription.
