By default, your Plug&Pay environment is on one of our subdomains, for example: yourdomainname.plugandpay.com.
You can change your Plug&Pay environment to your own domain! To do this, you need to change the DNS records of your domain name.
Changing your domain name is part of Plug&Pay Premium or -Ultimate. Are you using Plug&Pay Lite? Upgrade to Premium or Ultimate to use this feature.
Setting up your Plug&Pay environment on your own domain
If you want to set up your Plug&Pay environment on your own domain, you must follow these steps:
1. Choose the right (sub)domain
You can place your Plug&Pay environment on a main domain or on a subdomain. If you already have a website on your main domain, for example: plugandpay.com, it is impossible to place your Plug&Pay environment on your main domain. In that case, it is more convenient to use a subdomain, for example: checkout.plugandpay.com
If you currently do not have a website on your main domain, you can place your Plug&Pay environment on your main domain. It is also possible to set up a home page. From your home page, you can refer to other landing pages and/or your checkouts.
2. Enter your new domain in Plug&Pay
Go to Settings > Domain name:
Here you can choose between Have your domain set up by us or Link your own domain. In this manual, I explain how you can set it up yourself. So you can press Link your own domain.
In the pop-up that appears, enter your main domain, or your subdomain if you are already using the main domain.
There will be a green tick that says Domain usable if a valid domain name is entered. Click Save in order to continue.
3. Change the DNS records at your domain host
After clicking save, Plug&Pay will show 4 DNS records that you must add to your domain host.
The following records must be modified at your domain host:
Delete the A records for the domain name that you want to use for your Plug&Pay environment.
Delete the AAAA records for the domain name that you want to use for your Plug&Pay environment.
Add the records shown in Plug&Pay
❗️The records from the screenshot above are an example. The records you should enter will differ.
4. Activate your new domain name in Plug&Pay
In order to active your new domain name you need to back to Settings > Domain name.
After entering the DNS records at your domain host, you will have to wait up to 24 hours, depending on how quickly your domain host processed the DNS records.
If everything is set up and processed correctly, all records are verified, and you can move the Slider to activate your domain name:
❗️The slider may not be displayed, even after all records are verified. This may take several hours.
After activating, all pages are displayed directly on your own domain name.
ℹ️ Are you switching from a Plug&Pay subdomain to your own domain name?
In that case, all existing links will automatically redirect to your new domain name.
❗️Are you changing your own (sub) domain to a different (sub) domain? In that case, links are not automatically redirected. You will need to set up redirects at your domain host.
Overwhelmed? Then you can click on Have your domain set up by us, so we can adjust your domain name!
