Setting Up a Custom Domain

Connecting your own (sub)domain to your Plug&Pay environment via your domain provider

In this guide, you'll learn how to connect a custom domain to your Plug&Pay environment. You'll go through four steps: choosing a domain name, entering it in Plug&Pay, updating the DNS records at your domain provider, and activating the domain.

ℹ️ This feature is available from Plug&Pay Premium. Using Plug&Pay Lite? Upgrade to Premium or Ultimate to use this feature.

Choosing a Domain Name

Plug&Pay works with both a root domain and a subdomain, for example yourcompany.com (root domain) or start.yourcompany.com (subdomain).

Already have a website you want to keep? You can't use Plug&Pay on the same domain. Use a subdomain instead.

Don't have a website yet? You can build your website, including a homepage, in Plug&Pay and connect a root domain. From your homepage, you can link to other landing pages and payment pages.

ℹ️ You don't need separate website hosting at your domain provider.

Setting Up Your Domain Name

To set up your custom domain, go to Settings > Domain name.

Settings page in Plug&Pay with the 'Domain name' tile highlighted under the 'General' section.

In the Own domain block, click Link your own domain.

Enter your domain name in the pop-up that appears and click Save.

Adding DNS Records

After saving your domain name, Plug&Pay shows the DNS records you need to add at your domain provider, the registrar where your domain is registered. Any records that need to be removed will also be shown.

For a root domain, add four records and remove any conflicting existing records. For a subdomain, add two records.

ℹ️ The details shown in the screenshots are examples. The exact records will differ. Always use the records shown in your own Plug&Pay environment.

Activating Your Domain Name

Once the DNS records have been correctly added at your domain provider, it can take up to 24 hours before you can activate your domain.

When all records show as verified, a toggle will appear to activate your domain. Don't forget to save.

ℹ️ Even when all records are verified, it can still take up to 24 hours for the toggle to appear.

After activating your domain, an Active label will be shown next to the connected domain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to update my existing links manually?

No. Plug&Pay handles this automatically.

Are visitors automatically redirected to the new domain name?

Yes, but only when switching from our subdomain to a custom domain. Switching from one custom domain to another does not include an automatic redirect.

The toggle to activate the domain isn't showing. Why?

This means not all records have been verified yet. If all records already show as verified but the toggle still isn't visible, it can take up to 24 hours to appear.

I've been waiting more than 24 hours, but my DNS records still aren't verified. What now?

Your DNS records were likely not added correctly at your domain provider. See this guide for step-by-step instructions per domain provider.
