In this article, you'll read how to set up a trial for your subscription. A trial gives your (potential) customers the chance to get to know your service or product.
You can offer the trial both for free and paid. How they work in practice differs. Both variants are explained in more detail below.
Free trial
A free trial is a good way to offer your subscription to interested visitors at no cost. The majority of your audience won't be inclined to pay during their first visit.
Setting up a free trial
Navigate to Products and select your product, or create a new product as a subscription.
Under the Pricing tab, choose Subscription under 'Billing cycle'.
Then choose Trial under 'Discount'.
Decide on the duration of the trial and set 0 as the 'from' price.
Click Save at the bottom of the page.
Your visitors can only start the free trial by filling in their IBAN. This is needed to provide a mandate. After the free trial ends, the subscription is automatically renewed. It isn't possible to automatically end the trial.
Paid trial
An alternative to a free trial is a paid trial. Offer your subscription at a reduced rate, or use a symbolic amount of 1 cent to let your customers pay with credit card and other payment methods.
Setting up a paid trial
Navigate to Products and select your product, or create a new product as a subscription.
Under the Prices tab, choose Subscription under 'Billing cycle'.
Then choose Trial under 'Discount'.
Decide on the duration of the trial and the price.
Click Save at the bottom of the page.
Your visitors can start the trial by making the first payment manually on the checkout. This is needed to provide a mandate. After the trial ends, the subscription is automatically renewed. It isn't possible to automatically end the trial.
Viewing active trials
Via Sales > Subscriptions you can find all active trials. Subscriptions with the Trial label are in a trial.
Under the Free tab, you'll find all free trials.
💡 Tip: Filter by Trial to easily pull up all active trials.
Trial statistics
Via Statistics > Subscriptions > Trials you'll find statistics on your trials. Here you can see, among other things, how many trials have been started, have been cancelled and how many have been renewed.
